Shrove Tuesday
This last week saw student teams from each House take on the challenge of the inaugural Shrove Tuesday Pancake Races. Traditionally households would gather their most luxurious ingredients in their pantries – eggs, butter, milk and flour - to make pancakes to be enjoyed before the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Whilst the students weren’t making the pancakes, they were indeed trying to flip them in a pan while running the length of Assumption Hall in a relay team of students from Year 7 to Year 12. The final was hotly contested by Rice and Donovan Houses, with Donovan taking the win in a nail-biting race to the finish.

Our liturgy reminded us that Lent is a time to re-evaluate our priorities, a time to seek opportunities to help others and a time to reflect upon what we should have done and have not. Lent is not just about penance. It’s more than that – it is about becoming – doing and changing whatever we must - to live life abundantly. The ashes that our community displayed on our foreheads or hands symbolize our acknowledgement that we can and should do better. As we look for ways to assist others, the College community commits itself to support the work of Caritas Australia, through our Project Compassion fundraising activities. Stay tuned!

Year 7 and 8 Retreat Activities
Both Year 7 and 8 students had the wonderful opportunity to work with the team from Unleashing Personal Potential [UPP] this week, to discover how to work together in teams and build grit and resilience. One of the catchphrases of UPP is ‘we rise by lifting others’, an aspirational maxim that fits well with our Lenten call to ensure that we work towards making our world a better place, where all can live life to the full.
