Pastoral Care

We have an amazing Pastoral Team who are committed to supporting your students.

If you have questions or concerns about your child’s:
• Wellbeing or behaviour
• Social-emotional development
• School refusal or reluctance to attend
• Attendance patterns
…we encourage you to reach out.

Your child’s Pastoral Care (PC) teacher is your first point of contact. They know your child well and are equipped to support many day-to-day concerns. However, if the issue cannot be resolved at that level, the PC teacher may refer you to the Pastoral Leader (PL) for further support.

The PL works closely with the College wellbeing team to ensure that each student receives the care and guidance they need. If necessary, the PL can also connect families with specialist staff within the school, such as counsellors, learning support, and can offer assistance in sourcing external support.

We are here to work in partnership with you to ensure every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s wellbeing, please don’t hesitate to contact the College.

Wellbeing

Wellbeing and learning are very closely linked. When a student’s wellbeing is low, then learning may be impacted or have the potential to be impacted. As a college we support our students in developing and building the skills, capabilities and perseverance needed to build a successful future.

I recently wrote about the importance of having a purpose and setting goals, the students are reminded and encouraged to do this during Pastoral Care sessions and discuss with their teachers the obstacles they may face and ideas on overcoming them.

Having a healthy mind and the confidence to be in charge of their wellbeing is a powerful way to build resilience.

Mental health affects how we think, feel, and act. The flowchart below can help your child to understand which difficulties are normal, and which require further support.

Students need to recognise stress, worry, anxiety, resilience, and learn how to deal with their emotions. Accessing resources like the Stress, Worry, Anxiety chart below can help your child recognise unhelpful thought patterns and get tips and coping strategies for their challenges.

There are many resources available via the Kids Help Line website Kids Helpline @ School | Home

Our College Guidance Counsellors and College Chaplain are available every day. Students are welcome to attend the Wellbeing Centre or Student Reception to ask to see someone. Referrals may also come from Pastoral Care teachers, Pastoral Leaders or any staff members.
