A Standing Ovation for the Senior House Band
The stage was set, the lights were bright, and the energy was electric as the Assumption College Senior House Band took to the stage at the inaugural Battle of the Bands, hosted by the Border District Eisteddfod in Stanthorpe. And what a performance it was!
While they may not have taken home the top prize, our talented musicians delivered a show-stopping set that had the audience completely captivated from the first note to the final chord. Their passion, precision, and stage presence were nothing short of phenomenal, earning them rapturous applause and admiration from all in attendance.
We are incredibly proud of the band members — Wyatt Fretwell, Joshua Gale, Ziggy Gibson, Sam Shaw, Malachi Thomas, and James Wooding — for their hard work, dedication, and outstanding musicianship. Their commitment to excellence and love for music shone brightly on stage, making this a performance that will be remembered.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Mrs Hohenheim, whose tireless efforts and guidance helped shape the band’s success. Her dedication behind the scenes has been instrumental in nurturing the talents of our young musicians. We also extend our sincere thanks to Mr Buchanan for his unwavering support of our ensembles and the broader music program at Assumption College.
For those who missed the Senior House Band’s unforgettable performance, don’t worry — you’ll get a taste of their set at our next College assembly. Let’s continue to celebrate and support the incredible musical talent within our school. Bravo, Senior House Band — you’ve made us all proud!

Border District Eisteddfod – Concert Band
Not to be outdone, this week the Assumption College Concert Band also delivered a stellar performance at the Border District Eisteddfod, showcasing their exceptional talent and dedication. The ensemble captivated the audience with their renditions of "African Festival" and "25 or 6 to 4," demonstrating their versatility and musical prowess.
The adjudicator was notably impressed with the band's performance, highlighting the strength of the bass section and the contrasting repertoire choices. These elements contributed to the ensemble's dynamic and engaging presentation, earning them a highly commended result.
A special thank you goes to Aaron Buchanan, the ensemble director and conductor, whose tireless efforts have been instrumental in the growth and success of the instrumental program at Assumption College. His dedication and leadership continue to inspire and elevate the musical journey of our students.
Congratulations to the Assumption College Concert Band for their outstanding achievement!
