Praxis – Footsteps of Jesus

200392.jpg

This year, we are transitioning from Praxis to the Footsteps of Jesus model. The focus this year is on using an APP to put in all volunteering hours that students have done, where they will write short personal reflections at the same time.

For years 7 to 10, there is a required number of hours that they must complete as part of the Religious Education curriculum. Students have been informed about this in class. For years 11 and 12, there is no minimum amount that they have to achieve; however, it is strongly suggested that students still input their hours. This APP allows the college to track volunteering amongst the students, what engagements in the community our students are doing, and how we can improve for the years to come, to stay relevant and up to date.

Each year level has been allocated a CANVAS page that explains this. This link is found on the homepage of each year level, in their Religion class.

Reconciliation Week Walk

On Friday, 23 May 2025, students led by Issy Sullivan participated in a walk with St Mary’s Primary School and St Mary’s Kindy as they walked to each school and then to the Church. This started the National Reconciliation Week. Students spent time reflecting on the theme this year, “Bridging the now to next”, and how they can take this with them as they engage in this week.

Below is the reflection written by Issy Sullivan.

National Reconciliation Week

A time for all Australians to come together and learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements. We reflect on how each of us contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The National Reconciliation Week 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. The past elders, the present leaders of our community and the future, which is us- learning how to pave the way for a more just and right society.

Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.

Whilst Australia's history of reconciliation is not linear, we acknowledge that we have made great strides in improving for the future.

We acknowledge all elders, past present and emerging, many of whom are within our community. We thank them for their contribution to the life, culture, education and spirituality of this country.

As Assumption College, St Mary's Primary and St Mary's Kindy, we come together in the sacred space of truth-telling and story-sharing. For we are one in country, one in spirit and united through our joint values of wisdom, justice, generosity and compassion.

Year 11 First Nations, Leadership Camp

In week 4, Abby Hatton (Year 11 student) and Morgan Charles (First Nations Officer) travelled with students and staff across the Diocese to the Bunya Mountains. They spent three days engaging in talks, activities and reflection, where they learnt new skills and how they can take this back to our community. Both Abby and Morgan spoke highly about the opportunity and loved being able to interact and build friendships with others from different schools in Toowoomba Catholic Schools.
