Pastoral Care News

By Mrs Anna Hardy, Acting Deputy Principal

At the College, we value the importance of student’s wellbeing and the impact it has on student learning.  Positive emotions are extremely important for helping students achieve academic success.  A growing body of research into the role of wellbeing has proven the worth of student wellbeing as foundational to their learning (The Educator Online, edition 5.02).

Student wellbeing is a priority in the classroom and outside the classroom.  Wellbeing can be divided into three categories; social, cognitive and emotional.  Within the classroom, social learnings occur in content and activities delivered to the students, the academic challenges student’s face in dealing with these learnings and a feeling of community and strong belonging to that class.  Outside the classroom; being a part of positive and stable relationships, being involved in extra-curricular activities and a supportive home environment all contribute to a healthy sense of wellbeing.  These factors combined help and support students achieve academic success.

The pastoral team at the College focus on the wellbeing of our students.  The Pastoral Leaders along with our College Counsellor, Mrs Jenny Gillespie and the Learning Support department work collaboratively to ensure that each student feels valued and a part of our College community.  We provide wellbeing support for students and families and can often suggest further community support networks to explore if needed.

If you feel that your child needs support in the area of wellbeing either inside or outside the classroom or if you would like further information in regards to student wellbeing, please contact us via the College office.
