Confraternity Cup

On the 30th of June the Assumption College’s Confraternity campaign officially began. In preparation for this, the boys have been training since September 2018. After a solid 6 hour bus trip the boys settled into camp at St Patrick’s School Bundaberg and commenced a light run followed by a captains run. The boys attended the opening ceremony along with the ACW QISSN girls and another 47 (rugby league) and  63 (netball) teams/schools across the state. After a good night’s sleep the boys played Ryan College Townsville on Monday morning. After a great first half ACW won 18-12, player of the match: Sam Ogden. In our 2nd game for the Monday against All Souls Charters Towers, the boys were in shock after 28 points were put on them. After a much better 2nd half the final score was 34-0, player of the match: Zac Beckwith. Then off to the pool for a warm down session in preparation for Tuesday's games.

Tuesday morning we played St Laurence’s Brisbane, in a tough and physical game St Laurence proved too strong winning 16-0. Player of the match: Jack Duggan. On Tuesday afternoon game 4, in what was the toughest game of the carnival the boys stepped up in a great game to defeat St Edmunds Ipswich, 18-10, player of the match: Nick Carrie. The boys deserved a well earned break at Kelly’s Beach, Bargara for a warm down on the beach.

After some R & R on the Wednesday which included watching the ACW girls defeat Columba in a great game, a fish on the Burnett River, there was a spot of shopping. It was time to prepare tea for the girls who were coming over to join us for tea.

In our finals game for Thursday we played our old foe St Columban’s Caboolture, a school we have played many times over the years particularly in finals. Our effort was good in very windy conditions, but St. Columban’s proved too strong winning 34-8, player of the match: Tom Bell. It was time to have a warm down at the pool then enjoy each other’s company at our ACW presentations. We presented all players with a small gift and also acknowledged our Tourists of the carnival: Connor Murphy, Jarrod Millard & Tom Bell who stood out in a very good team/group. The boys also acknowledged the  coaching staff.

After an early breakfast, clean and pack up of St Patricks it was time for strapping and game prep for Game 6, Friday V Trinity College Beenleigh in another game that could have gone to either side but Trinity prevailed 22-12, player of the match: Jayden Lippi. After the game and after many captured memories the boys sat together to watch Ignatius Park Townsville  defeat The Cathedral College Rockhampton in the Confraternity Shield. In the closing ceremony we acknowledged all confraternity champions, congratulations to Jack Duggan (best & fairest), and Tom Spence (spirit) and well done to Mick Mahoney (QLD honorary manager) 15 years of service, well done Mick.

A massive thank you to, Carly Cooper, Eliza Harris, Jack Breen, Michael Mahoney and Des & Kerri Collins for taking time to be involved in this week; with your help and dedication the week runs well. I know how much the boys appreciate as do I, thank you. To our wonderful sponsors, thanks for your support it helps the boys in so many ways. Thanks Connor Murphy for your dedication to this role not only at confraternity but at all sessions and games prior, well done. St Patrick’s Bundaberg (Maria Davies) for hosting the team this year and St Marys College Toowoomba for the use of your bus for the week it was greatly appreciated. Next year will be at Iona College Brisbane.
